a celebration of life
for blaine hougland

The livestream for Blaine’s service will begin at 11:00am CT.

What does it mean to “go Blue for blaine” ?

Having dedicated the last 25 years to the youth soccer community in both Kansas and Missouri, Blaine spent the majority of his days out on the pitch – from coaching his own sons and stewarding young referees, to reminding parents that their role on the fields are to spectate and encourage their kids, not take on the job he’s been certified for – Blaine built a legacy that will continue to impact the game for generations to come. To honor that legacy, his family is challenging the community to “Go BLUE for Blaine”… so what does that look like?

The Color Blue

Blue represents the emotion and mindset of being calm, and anyone that knew Blaine knew he was a pro at de-escalation and being the calm in a storm.

BREATHE

In any conflict or tense situation, it’s important that before we respond, we take a moment to breathe.

LISTEN

After we take a breath, we have to listen.
If you’re talking, you’re not listening.

UNDERSTAND

It’s imperative that while in the process of listening, we seek to understand what’s at stake in the situation or conversation.

EMPATHIZE

Once you’ve had a chance to breathe, listen and seek to understand,
it’s vital to empathize with those involved in the situation so as to work together to reach a solution.

His family is putting together a “Go Blue for Blaine” campaign fund that will give back to three areas near and dear to Blaine’s heart –
youth soccer, colon cancer research, and anti-trafficking . The fund will open up starting Wednesday, April 6, 2022 for donations.
